if you use SDCC then download the Crimson editor it is a very good editor and Scott free.
if you use Protel PCB i can email to you the circuit board for the ISP cable i made based on mr Asim Khan circuits my cable uses one 74HCT541 ic, fits inside the cover of a db25 plug gets its power from the board under construction and also a PCB for testing purpose
this ISP cable is very convennient for learning and works
just don't spend a fortune to learn mcu, try to make things your self that way you learn more. read and read and read the posts in this forum and paid occasional visit to Prof. Witchit's web site if you have questions email him he's a very nice guy.
don't miss out on this site's tutorials, download for your self Craig's tutorial, it's the poor man's manual
that's how i learn mcu :-)
