I'd recommend you a reset pushbutton (for more luxury, reset can be driven from one of the RS232 handshake signals, have a look into FlashMagic documentation for the details).

This might be tricky if you chose the MCP101. I use TL7705 for my hobby work, although I know it is not the best choice (does not produce valid output under around 2V).
