Hello people,
For quite some time i have been thinking of making a microcontroller board which can be programmed using free tools.
For example, i recently downloaded and installed SDCC and it seems to be working fine.(I wrote my test program in notepad)

Can you suggest me some controller to start with which would be readily available and not very costly. Also what downlaoder can i use for .ihx file generated for the controller you would suggest? Most important, the hardware connections for the same.Because i really strugled the last time with it. I tried my hands on AT89s51 and made a board.

I used AtmelISP for the same. I had made a simple program to toggle an LED but it woudn't work.
To summarize it, i m looking for a feasible 8051 controller(ISP)+ 'reliable wiring scheme'+ free tools available for the same(downloader)
Any help would be highly appreciated...
