This is not an illusion. The 2 RAMS are not optional. They can either be used as one big 40K chink of Memory, OR in the final version (PCB version), by selecting a jumper, the board will have 8K RAM for sata, and 32K RAM mapped on CODE and DATA spcae (with RD and PSEN) for Program uploading as well as data storage.

So there wont be sockets, these RAMs will be directly soldered on the PCB.
