#112912 - wheel-reinvention gone mad! Responding to: ???'s previous message |

I defy you to list one chip which has the capabiliy of what Zeeshan is trying to build. A Zylogic ZE520 would do everything except the external flash, EEPROM, and possibly RTC. I think some ST uPSDs would do everyting except the RTC (but they'd give you hardware I2C for it) - plus on-chip debug. You could certainly get this down to a single-board solution without going to cutting-edge technology! The 8255s are only needed because of all the ports taken up by the external address & data busses; so they are superfluous with any modern derivative with on-chip Flash & XRAM. A modern derivative with on-chip Flash & XRAM would almost certainly also have on-chip EEPROM. Why do we need both two 8255s and 74HC573/245 "Auxiliary" ports? But, most importantly, what's the point of yet another SBC with all this stuff? This is wheel-reinvention gone mad! |
