Which methode is better depends a bit on what connectors are to be soldered and on what side of PCB you want to solder them. In earlier days, I always mounted the chips on sockets. But in those days achievable sockets were more expensive than the chips. And, I had lots of contact problems, because they hadn't gold contacts. Funny enough, I never had a damaged chip to exchange, which finally is the reason to use sockets at all, isn't it? So, one fine day I neglected all these shitty sockets. Anyway, when using SMDs there isn't any socket on board, is it? Kai |
