Has anybody actually written a set of tests that ferify proper function of a basic 805x system?

I've searched the forum's recent messages, but, thanks to the simple but sad fact that many users don't know the difference between trial and testing, there are lots of mislabelled posts, many thousands, that are incorrectly categorized.

How do you guys satisfy yourselves that all the instructions are properly executed? How do you convince yourselves that all the RAM or ROM are functioning as they should? How about external hardware? Has anybody written a test for external memory? What about serial I/O loopback testing? Verifying port I/O? Has anybody addressed that?

Just how do you convince yourselves that the new IC you just bought works properly? Do you all rely on multi-megabuck IC testers? Do you trust their test routines?
