an even better idea for a beginner would be to buy a SILabs devboard ($79 - up) not because the SILabs chips necessarily are a better choice, but because the built in for free ICElike debugging is the greatest learning tool you can get without spending $1000 - up.

PS you will most likey fail miserably trying to make anything with a decent clock speed on a one layer board.
