#112246 - One more detail just to get it right Responding to: ???'s previous message |
One more detail I forget to share:
Our ASIC is a mixed signal chip. That means there is an analog part inside which is the most important part. Therfore we can't use generic MCU's. I have never heard about any "universality" (ASIC PC board or whatever) wanted from anything above, say, 10.000 units. The universality is not my idea. The reason is simple the company wants to get out as much from the ASIC as possible, and we wan't to leave open the doors for further applications aswell. Imagine: You know for sure that now you can sell 1mil of chips for applications where you don't need UART but prehaps in the future you will need it but you don't know it for sure!. Therfore would you implement the UART now or would you simple make a new ASIC design in the future? But I guess these discussion is already out of the scope of my original question. Still I am just a software developer which tries to overcome the hardware-software design gap. That's why I started this thread. But still thanks again for the lot of posts. I will forward it to our project leaders so they can also think about the issues you mentioned here. Greetings Attila |
