The possible time/costs saving is what I am trying to figure out - that's exactly why I am asking what is the extra good in it.

This is what happens with dedicated eqipment - you need to justify buying/employing it, quite precisely. Take for example an oscilloscope - I wouldn't try to make such a calculation there - I simply buy the best one I can afford - I am absolutely sure it will pay out in the long run - it gets used often enough. The dedicated tool gets most probably useless within a couple of projects and almost certainly obsolete after a cople of years...
