#111692 - thin ground? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Erik Malund said:
[...] but looking at your pictures, it seems you have committed a one layer cardinal sin. I do not see the ground traces being any heavier than the signal traces. Ehm? What I see on the pictures is that the Cu layer is etched away only between the traces, leaving biiig sheets of Cu where there are no traces; and I assume those are all ground... But the trouble with 1layer and the ground return is, that the ground, although wide, go necessarily round and round, creating big loops and common ground resistance paths. For power supply, a slight remedy can be made using heavy filtering, a lot of small caps scattered all over the are, which shorts the HF current. For the signal return, if critical points can be easily identified, it could possibly be cured by placing a ground wire in parallel (physically) with the signal trace; or cutting the signal trace and replacing it by a thin coaxial cable or maybe a twisted pair. All this not for production, but for demonstration of what may go wrong on the single-layer. I am not a HF/EMC expert and I don't do HW other than hobby, so correct me if I am wrong. Jan Waclawek |
