#113237 - Difficult to answer
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Well, Erik, it's difficult to answer your question because I agree with some of what you suggest, but not all. First of all, the '922 is pretty expensive for what it does. If I were building a device without an MCU it might be on the BOM, but probably not, since there are MCU's that cost less.

OTOH, the O/P knows what he can readily obtain, and he already has a design. We should be helping him make it work, and not be telling him to scrap his design and start over.

I'm not sure where I stand on your comment about the programmer. One can easily build an EPROM programmer on a PC parallel port or nearly any other hardware system, using a few octal registers buffers, and a little software. It's not perfect, but it's doable. ISP devices are nice if you have them. If you haven't, you have to go another way.

Aside from that, how do you know that a '922 is not the best choice? If he's building a onesie, and already has the part, maybe he wants to use it just because he's already got it. It saves quite a bit of coding, though I admit the keypad scanning code is widely and freely available.
