Erik Outside of drop-in compatibility matters which have already been extensively discussed, price is another advantage. DS89C4x0 devices all cost somewhere around US $10, even in small quantities from Maxim/Dallas directly, which as I recall is significantly less than some of the SiLabs devices you mentioned (e.g., 'F120). None of this is to knock the SiLabs devices though; they have a lot of things going for them that the DS89C4x0 parts do not. --Sasha Jevtic |
