They wanted to distinguish this new family from the DS80C320, which they already called "high speed", so they added a superlative.
The DS80C320 was the first fourclocker, wasn't it. The speed comparison comes out even worse for the DS89C4x0 (my "benchmark" shows almost 1:4 - although we all know what value are benchmarks) due to less effective "clocking" of individual instructions. On the other hand, on the Dallas it is possible to run the program externally while on the SiLabs it is not. On the third hand, who needs external program execution anyway... :-) Jan Waclawek |
