I know 8051 and PIC both. PIC assembly is difficult as there are no instruction to do certain task directly, programmer has to do the thing indirectly. But PIC is very very much popular among students and hobbyest. Most of people who are new to microcontroller think PIC is very easy to programe as it has only 35 instruction set.
