#111906 - Ooooooh... This, in a 8051 forum? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Kalpak,
Are you really praising PICs in a 8051 forum? :-))) Seriously, I appreciate your comments, but let me discuss: 1) Considerable code and hardware compatibility. See Erik's post. The compatibility in case of 8051 is unbelievable, considering the many companies and time involved. See for example the DS89C4x0 family. 2) Limited third party chaos. ;-) , but good point. This is why we have 8052.com, the one-stop source of 8051 wisdom. :-P 3) And if I find a bug in datasheet or chip or tool, it is acknowledged as a bug, no one from the support trying to teach me about pull up resistors or concept of quasi bidirectional etc. 4) Limited instruction set and a pain to learn. A big pain to learn those ridiculous acronyms. Personal experience (nausea and all :-) 6) Excellent forum, in a way better than this forum, because even company employees participate. 7) In India, even though a small market, top class sample and sales support. OK I am kidding, I hope this was not a too big faux pas; otherwise I apologize. But the point with Microchip providing excellent support in small scale is very relevant; Atmel works in a slightly similar way. Generally, I found out that usually one praises the tool he uses the most; but at the end of the day, it really does not matter, whether PIC, '51, AVR, Freescale, Renesas or whichever, if it fits the task.
