This PIC stuff is wonderful!!! There's one reason why so many hobbyists use them, because of the huge support. Millions of PIC users make projects and put them in the web. You can find almost everything done with a PIC from a simple led flasher to a complex helicopter control. And you will find all sorts of support, programmers etc. For a hobbyist this is the paradise!

A professional looks for something totally different, a versatile instruction set, compatibility of built-in hardware components, if he has in his new application to migrate to something totally different. He has no time to learn a "new" micro. He also needs more complexitiy, must address external memory, etc., which is a good job for the 89C51 with its versatile Ports.
