#108664 - Yes, I like 'em too ... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Those DIN41612 connectors are WONDERFUL! They provide plenty of contatcts, they're inexpensive, and, if, as I do, you use the wire-wrap sockets, boards can be stacked with them for several layers without a backplane, despite the presence of a couple of layers of wrapped connections. If you use two of them per board, suitably placed, you can exploit this with only very modest mechanical support.
Unfortunately, I had the 4.5" x 6" boards with the edge connectors built back in the '70's, when the DIN connectors were not yet popular enough to be inexpensive, and have had such good luck with those boards and the backplanes I had built for them, that I've never felt in necessary to "upgrade" to the DIN connector. Much of the time, the edge connector is just used to bring in power. It seems to do that as well as one could want. I've never had reason to curse it. In 1981, at which time I was selling my dual height VME wire-wrap boards for high-speed applications, these right-angle plug connectors cost upward of $4 in modest (100 piece) quantity. I've used 'em for many intersting things, since they provide excellent board-to-board interconnection, and facilitate support-hardware-less lashups on the test bench. RE |
