If you're not using external RAM, you can probably get by with an 8155 or 8156. These have I/O, albeit of a somewhat different sort than the 8255, but since it internally demultiplexes the address/data information that appears on P0, you can get by with that. It also provides a bit of RAM, IIRC.

at that 4.9 MHz clock, you're going slowly enough for any technology that's been available since the invention of the mosfet.
