I'd say that there were, at one time, in the distant past, OS' available for, and used on, 8-bitters considerably less capable than the 805x-family that's available today. If someone has the somewhat odd belief that he needs that as a solution to his requirements, I might snicker, but I wouldn't stop him.

The fact that there are more suitable processors, at essentially comparable cost, on which to run such things doesn't mean that a guy who's really determined to make it work shouldn't give it a go. I wouldn't, but someone else might.
