The one thing that does come up from time to time is the subject of an RTOS for 805x. This gets varying treatment, depending on who happens to comment on it, but if one were to use PL/M 51, one could probably take the sources (most utilities were written in PL/M) for CP/M and translate them from their 8080 sources to 805x, though a rigorous translation algorithm would have to be "cooked up."
CP/M was, for a number of years, THE OS for microcomputers. It certainly surpassed the offerings for the 6502 or 680x, both in fuctionality and in variety of software applications. Now, an RTOS doesn't need those applications, and the 805x generally isn't used as a microprocessor, but there are instances ... Now that we have ultra-cheap mass storage, in the form of CF memory modules, and now that there are 805x versions at speeds of 100 MHz, it might warrant a look. RE |
