A thick piece of wire with convectional air cooling would do the trick
fine if you can calibrate. Anyhow, I doubt the wire supplying the motor need air cooling, so, if calibration is possible, both ends of the return wire (using the return wire, probably will cut down on - maybe even eliminate - common mode).
