It looks like I will use Cadsoft's Eagle.

It has a nice autorouter for simple circuits, and seems to do what I want, but the only thing I have to do is collect more libraries, especially those for the standard character LCD displays.

Anyone have any idea where I can go to get libraries other than Cadsoft's own site?

now, I am downloading all of the libraries I can find on Cadsoft, and if I still can't find the parts, then I need help finding the libraries.

Thanks for recommending software, but before I got back here, I was already downloading Eagle.
