If you don't have the reset IC in the drawer and the store where you can get it is 500km away, it is certainly easier to rewrite a couple of lines of asm...
while I do accept the difficulty if you have a 5 day camel ride to get a part, how on earth is "a couple of lines of asm" going to solve a reset problem?
