Thanks for the link, Joe. These could work, but, the cost of their short-range transceiver is >$2 in production quantity by the nearest estimate I'm able to find.

I'll investigate the overall cost of their use. At least they're close to what I might actually want to use, as they separate the link hardware from the remainder of the system.
