Ive read it on the xilinx application notes page for a very small rf id tag implemented in a coolrunner cpld used to tag fish if something if i remember right,or maybe it was in their xcell magazine either way it might be worth looking into.Otherwise I dunno how much you want to spend on development but you could roll your own rf mod and reciever but then youve got to go through the licensing
