If "perhaps he meant 'want'" then it is still valid to point out that such a 'want', while fine, is not nevcessarily the solution to getting the job done.

I prefer to eliminate other possible causes of apparent foolishness, like a lack of English fluency, first.
Which I did by stressing that an IDE is not a 'need' but a 'convenience'. If anyone can find me stating "you should not use an IDE" in this thread I'll buy him a bucket of beer next time we happen to be in the same location.
