There are no easy solutions, but I suppose the point here is that you want as little human intervention/hand-changing-of-part-#s as possible.

Agreed, and as I tried to convey by "a good idea with problems" some companies will be able to handle such a setup, others not. The issue is that whatever you do there will, almost always, be problems and working with the people I have worked with over the years, I know none that would always spot the risks resulting from your system.

If you can control it, use it.
