#114325 - Protel Responding to: ???'s previous message |
While I totally agree about your comments on "Eagle", I've used a number of other packages including P-CAD 2000, 2001, and 2004. Also used version of OrCAD from the v6.x days to most recently 10.2. Lastly, I used Protel 99SE and now Protel DXP (now named Altium Designer 6.0).
While I was NOT impressed with the 99SE Protel, I must say that I LOVE the current version MUCH better than any other package I have ever used. The libraries are *somewhat* out of date and the package does try to do too much (embedded software IDE, PCB, SCH, FPGA, etc etc). But beyond that, it's very intuitive, at least to me. Curious, is your opinion of Protel based on an older version or Designer 6.0? P-CAD would be my second choice, but I don't find it near as slick as Protel. Oops, a bit off topic. To the OP, as has already been said, you will need to be making your own parts most of the time. Such is life. Something I find very useful when making packages is the IPC standard calculator: http://landpatterns.ipc.org/default.asp Also, scroll down to the end of this page: http://www.pcblibraries.com/store/matrix/ IPC will soon be selling a up to date patten library for Protel. I was told they are about 1-2 months away. Bruce |
