When a quasi-bidirectional port is set to '1' it is possible for external devices to pull it down.

And none of the babble is used in the statement above. thus no confusion.

I have seen more than one mentally running around like a fart in a pisspot trying to sort out "input mode" and "output mode"

If you speak to me directly, not in a forum, use any description you want, when speaking to a novice, do no use expressions that can be confusing.
