By writing a 1 to the port you turn off the strong output FET. This allows the weak pullup to pull up the pin (except port 0).
The port mode is unchanged. You may say it is only semantics, but it is not. Some derivative do have special port modes, and SFRs to set them. Like a mode is not a mode. The writing of ones to a port to does not "enable input mode". The writing of ones to a port to "allows input to be seen by the CPU" |
