PS the solution to many "time available" problems is Philips LPC9xx (2 clockers and cheap) or SILabs (1 clockers and a bit pricey). Ph ARGH NXP goes to 18MHz at 2 clocks = 9 times faster than "the standard", silabs goes as high as 100MHz at 1 clock = 100 times faster than "the standard". There are offerings from other manufacturers with varying degrees of speed-up, I just mention the ones I use.
