These threads came from people who tried to build a programmer by their own. The threads handled from mistakes they made, and how fix it. This has nothing to do with the quality of At89S52 itself.
Also, it seems to me, that the AT89S52 is sold much oftener than a comparable Philips' micro. So, more interest and more threads.

What do you do with the programmed micros? Put them into a socket, or solder them into the board?
