HCT has TTL compatible inputs where as HC has CMOS compatible inputs.

HCT has inputs compatible with 3.3V levels where as HC has CMOS compatible inputs.

HC can be used in 3.3V supplied logic HCT can not

when supplied vith 5v the ouitput levels is same for both.

Both can drive TTL (5V) logic with the outouts.

HCT works perfectly for converting 3v3 to 5v, for concerting 5V to 3v3 e.g. 74LVC4245 is required
