HCT has TTL compatible inputs where as HC has CMOS compatible inputs. HCT can accept 3V logic level singlas and buffer them correctly. HC being CMOS level inputs cant work with 3V logiv levels. Some of newer PCs have 3V Parallel ports so using HC will work on some PCs but not all. having said that doesnt mean HCT is superior to HC or inferior. HC has advantage of better noise margin.
