#108416 - I've had some success... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi there,
I've had a break on my tachometer for a few weeks due to exams (and in case you're wondering, NO I am not studying anything to do with programming or electronics) and decided today to have another try to get it going. I decided to test it out using an electric drill with a magnet spinning on the end. I was pleasantly surprised when I did this! I managed to get it up to about 3000RPM without any problems at all. The LCD didn't cutout like it had with the engine and the readings I was getting seemed very sensible (the manufacturer claims a maximum speed of 3000 RPM for the drill). What this means, is that my other problems must be due to the ignition system on the engine. I guess I'll start working on getting rid of the mid-20th century style ignition points and move onto an electronic system (which I might add will include an 8052...). Thanks for all your help so far - I can now start adding more features to my system like a rev limiter. Regards Warren |
