In the very late '70's and early '80's, Intel was given to publishing posters featuring photomicrographs, much enlarged of course, of a few of their products, not the least of which was the 8751 die. They also published such posters of the 80186 die, which was an 8086 core with built in support logic, including clock generator, chip selects, interrupt encoders, etc. The justification for creating this processor, which I liked very much, was, apparently, a cruise missile application, and, the Soviets didn't waste any time in replicating the chip and using it in their own cruise missile. I don't know whether the 8751 die was ever reverse-engineered in such a way.
