I don't think it's otherwise in Keil's or other's C, is it.

It's just that the list of variables as a separate file is nicer, neater, easier to read and/or maintain (or at least I think this was Erik's point).

PS. I don't like this method, Erik - once i wandered into C I'll try to be as much C-ish as possible - but, with your kind permission, I store it to the "might come handy once" box... :-)
