I'm interested in this baud-rate question in the context of the rather extreme tenacity with which users adhere to the all-too-popular 11.0592 MHz input frequency for 805x parts due to the range of available baud rates. This is because I'm persuaded that it might be worth looking at a more convenient rate, e.g. 12 MHz, though that would require a different approach to baud rate generation, i.e. using a different timer to generate the driver clock for the UART. I've noted a lot of dissatisfaction with this rather peculiar frequency where timing other sorts of events is concerned. It appears clear enough that 12 MHz is suitable as a driver clock for the higher and, therefore, more popular frequencies above 4800 bps, so I'm trying to decide whether it's worth fooling around with that old standby of 11.5 MHz when 12 MHz is so convenient on the older 12-clockers and the 4 clockers, too.
