Hi Steve,
I don't know if anyone remembers this, but several years ago our NASA has a spate of "bad luck" which culminated in them crashing a probe into Mars (instead of landing). I don't remember the details, but I do remember that in the end they determined that one team was working in metric and another in SAE. The point is that when the craft approached, Mars was a lot closer than they realized and so they didn't slow down. Like I said, I don't remember the details but I'll bet someone here does. |
