I think Central Europe was metric since the dawn of the Austro-Hungarian empire, so I never met anything else until started electronics... Interestingly, some of the parts produced within the"Eastern block" (there was a formal economical "union" but I don't know how was the proper english translation - an acronym coming from it was often used to denote if a construction was "pure" or needed "western" = hardly obtainable pars) were metric (often the connectors), others tried to be "compatible"... One unrelated thing, vodka is (was) measured in Russia in grams rather than (milli-/centi-/deci-)liters. The default measure - stakhan (glass) - is - depending on area - 100g or 200g. Jan Waclawek |
