#146049 - Why read twice? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
The ADC's output is a 16-bit value, isn't it?
It's just that the 8051 is an 8-bit processor - so it can only handle 8 bits at a time. Therefore the 16-bit ADC value has to be read in two 8-bit "chunks". There is really no reason to keep the ADC values in their two halves in two separate 8-bit arrays - you really want a single array of 16-bit ADC readings: read ADC low byte; store into low byte of one 16-bit array element; read ADC high byte; store into high byte of the same 16-bit array element; Once you have the ADC readings stored in the array, there is really no point in reading the ADC again just to display the value - just use what you already have in the array element! read ADC low byte; store into low byte of one 16-bit array element; read ADC high byte; store into high byte of the same 16-bit array element; display the 16-bit array element; |
