I here there are so DSPs where the hardware can only read 32 bit quantities. So everything is 32 bits int short int and long.
If the original coder wrote INT16U (or choose you notation) he should have used the correct typedef. And anyone modifying or porting will have to supply a type def that gives the same size, or verify the code will work with a different size. This can be handy since many PC programmers assume an int is 32 bits. they use "int" the code get ported to a machine with a 16 bit "int" and it no longer works. The same is true if 16 bit math is expected to overflow and does not on a 32 bit machine. INT8U says I looked at this variable an 8 bits is enough. |
