There's huge differencies of switchers and demands. I very often use the LM2674 as pre-switcher in hermetically sealed devices, where a minimum heat dissipation to achieve is crucial. The design is deadly simple and complying with the CE standards is absolutely no problem.
But I would never fabricate a SMPS which sees mains at its input, or design a switcher, when PCB area is minimum. Kai |
