I thought you were the one who pointed out how long the qualification process for rad -hard parts is. As a relatively low range LSI part, the 8255 is likely to be much less soft-error susceptible than high integration parts.

So the 8255 flies as perhaps one of the ONLY I/O expanders that is space qualified.

And the shuttle STILL flies on 8080s.
