What's with this infatuation that 805x users have with that 11.0592MHz Crystal?

Is there some reason why 12.000 MHz isn't "close enough" for async serial communication? I've used 12.096 MHz often enough, and 12.288 MHz very often, not to mention 11.988, which also is a handy frequency for NTSC video timing.

Maybe I've overlooked something, so, if you know why this is, please educate me.
