I've used OrCAD tools since v1.21, back in '85. I've found that EVERYTHING that requires a mouse, with the exception, perhaps, of drawing wires, is slower now that they're in Windows. This has been a problem since the OrCAD acquisition of MicroSim, which happened more or less at the same time that MicroSim released v5.2 of PSpice, which was their first Windows release.
I need only mention one aspect of using OrCAD, though I now have Capture v10, having tried out nearly every Windows version. Their use of the mouse is the problem, of course. I've only to mention finding a component in the libraries as something that takes longer. The DOS version finds any component in the loaded libraries in less than a few milliseconds. If you look in the various libraries in the Windows version, you'll find the components are arranged randomly, i.e. not in numeric or alpha-numeric sequence. It makes the one-second job of placing a component into a two-day journey, since you can't easiy guess where a given part resides. Now that's not all. If you try to label a net, under DOS all you have to do is type <P><L> and the signal name. Try that in the Windows version. I could go on ... RE |
