#108190 - I have, by no means, given up on SILabs
Responding to: ???'s previous message
However, are these differences so much as to give up to use these MCUs?
I have, by no means, given up on SILabs in general. I use the f12x-f13x series extensively. However one experience with the f3xx was enough. I made a design using the chip and the first thing was that it did not work because I had, as any sane individual would, connected the external oscillator to XTAL1. Well my techie knows how to cut and paste PCBs, so that was taken care of - of course the cost of a new PCB layout would eventually be requied. Then I started coding and finding no RCAP2 SFRs I created some crummy code to work around that problem and after debugging that "found" the RCAP2, just renamed. Then I included my standard HW IIC routines and BOOM that hardware was done differently, then ... then ... and THEN I threw the board with the deviate away and redid the whole thing with a sane processor.

I also have many complaints on SiLabs, but not on the specific device family. Rather, their attitude and quality of software products.
Yes, the software stinks, but in my corrsepondence with some of the people (I do not disclose e-mail addresses or names, since once I did that a "third layer specialist" got innundated with banale questions) and there are some changes happening as to 1) a better response to bugs and 2) making the tools more "friendly"

Doesn't the SFRPAGE on C8051F12x have more impact on coding it? I've made comments on SFRPAGE at least a hundred times more than on these differences in SiLabs forum..
SFRPAGE is a "necessary evil" and the method I have developed and shown has reduced the errors due to this dramatically. Other attempts to expand the SFR number ar just as misrable. The main problem for some with SFRPAGR is that "canned '51 code" does not work off the bat, I consider that an advantage, maybe tha "engineer" that try to graduate by copying will have to learn something.

It's worrying me that your another valuable advices are taken as old man's same story.
i give advice freely, if someone decides not to take it, is not my problem

Anyway, ToolStick is scam.
well, when something is given away (at the seminars) you just have to realize that you get what you pay for :)

At least my old eyes are not clear enough to solder wires to the wall pads on the 3x3mm QFN11 package. ;-)
I address one of my techies as "eagleeyes" he can solder thing I can not even see with no errors, can I do it - NO WAY :(
