#104572 - Me neither
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Probably, we feel more connected to the "methusalem" than they do ! For them, it is a long, long back in the past (sure it is), and history doesn't make money !

Slobodan,

More reasons why Intel would rather 'forget' this chip:

1.) They tried to 'upgrade' it with MCS-251 - and failed to make the same impact as it's predecessor.
2.) Intel would rather sell you a 'mobile' (read low power) version of the pentium!
3.) You cannot patent a number!

Anyways, it's good to know there are other manufacturers who make chips which have an 8051-based core - and are continuously enhancing it's performance/features.

Cheers,
Valentin

PS: Interesting side note. From what i've read, (wasn't there, sorry :) Intel started work on the 8051, when they were chastized upon the release of the 8048 - experts degraded it as a 'toy' or worse - truly an uderrated part.
