Each row of 4 cylinders had a group of two coils providing four outputs, each connected to a sparking plug. A total of 8 Coils for a 4 cylinder engine ! Looks like a performance engine. I think there's no advantage in avoiding ignition coils in future, but in avoiding the distributor! So these EFI engines with ECU controlled Ignitions do use a seperate Coil for each cylinder ? How do they replace the HV distributor ? Atleast i didn't saw something like 4 coil's in my dad's EFI equipped Peugeot ? An interesting link : 8051 based EFI Farshid |
